First stop this morning was the local Farmer’s Market in Fairbanks.
Sue looking at a local artist’s works.
A couple more shots of the farmer’s market.
Look at those pretty radishes!
We started down the Chena Hot Springs Road and about 10 miles out of town we came across this moose sniffing around some construction equipment.
….
The Chena Hot Springs Road goes for about 50 miles and dead-ends at the Chena Hot Springs Resort.
The also have the Aurora Ice Museum (which was closed today for some reason).
The Department of Energy with Chena Hot Spring are drilling a 3,000 ft exploration well to determine the size and temperature of the energy field at Chena Hot Springs. They are looking for 200 degree water (the hot springs is 165 degrees). Their website says it is a deep hole well they are drilling, but I used to work in the oil business and 3000 ft is NOT a deep hole!
A sign explaining the Department of Energy’s project.
An interesting flower pot.
A 1959 (the first year they were made) Polaris snowmobile.
I don’t believe this sign applies right now!
They had this cool mural inside the hot springs office.
…..
The cooling ponds.
The main pool water temperature is about 104 degrees.
A few shots of the cabins and lodge rooms.
A moose antler art object.
….
The Chena Hot Springs private air strip.
Some old equipment.
An old wheat thresher.
We don’t know what tomorrow will bring!
Until next time!
