Thursday night in conjunction with Abilene’s monthly ArtWalk they celebrated CajunFest. Now Abilene’s version of something Cajun is hiring a caterer from Shreveport to boil crawfish and shrimp. We knew about the celebration, but we didn’t know how late we were going to have to work on Thursday. So we didn’t buy any tickets for the crawfish and shrimp ahead of time. We ended up getting off early enough to get there when it started at 7:00PM, but they had pre-sold all of the tickets and didn’t think they would have any left over for walk-up sales, so we couldn’t buy any tickets.
Here is the big tent where they were serving the boiled crawfish and shrimp.
The serving line went all the way to the street and then down the street.
We figured we wouldn’t try and wait in line and get some crawfish, since we would be heading to Lake Charles in a couple weeks we would get some when we got back to Lake Charles.
The proceeds from the boiled crawfish and shrimp was benefitting Abilene Independent School District. So there were a lot of the schools represented around downtown. Here are a few photos.
Abilene High School Band playing the steel drums – very impressive!
Another part of the band was playing some dance music with one of the cheerleaders dancing with the mascot.

The band.
They even had some older folks playing bagpipes.
A little further down the street several students were jump roping to music.

Around the corner we found some belly dancers.

Like I mentioned above, we only have a couple weeks left here to work in Abilene. After that we will start making our way slowly back to Lake Charles. We plan on spending most of the month of May in Lake Charles and take the grand kids camping around June 12.
Until next time!
