As promised in the previous blog entry here is a photo from the Memorial Day event at Davis Lakes Campground in Suffolk, Virginia. It was a local band that was pretty good considering they had only been practicing for a couple weeks before this event.

One day while Sue and I were working claims in Portsmouth, VA we decided to eat lunch at the famous Doumar’s BBQ and Cones – Home of the original waffle cone. So we drove over to Norfolk, VA about 5 miles from Portsmouth through the tunnel to get to Doumar’s.
Mr. Doumar is still making the famous waffle cones.
After he makes the waffles in the waffle irons he wraps them around the cone shaped metal iron and sticks them in the cone-shaped waffle iron.
After we ate their burgers for lunch (which weren’t that great). Sue and I split a ice cream cone with a freshly made cone. It was pretty good!
I came across this sign which is for my buddy Richard King.
One day for lunch while we were in Portsmouth, VA we ate at Amory’s Seafood. The seafood was really good and reasonably priced.
This mural was on the wall of the men’s bathroom.
One day we drove to Virginia Beach to eat at Waterman’s Restaurant right on the beach. We had a great view of the beach and the setup for the night’s concert which had the Beach Boys and Darius Rucker. Oh yeah, the food was good too!

Of course, these are all along the beach. :)

After we finished the claims in Virginia we headed back to Lake Charles. It was a good thing that we ran out of claims, because we found out that Sue’s mom had fallen and broke her hip and fractured her pelvis in 2 places. Our kids have been taking care of Sue’s mom and dad while we were on our way back to Lake Charles, so unfortunately we didn’t get to stay in Virginia and do any other sightseeing. Sue’s dad is 95 and will be 96 the 27th of June (next week) and her mother is 86. But since her mother is the one that has to take care of her dad since he can’t do much for himself it is bad when she is down. Since we have been back in Lake Charles, Sue has been staying over at her mom and dad’s taking care of them. She had been spending the night there since we arrived here also.
Since Sue has been spending the night at her parent’s house, the grand sons that live here in Lake Charles have been spending the nights here with me in the motorhome. The first night here I had all 3 of them with me and quickly said that only one at a time from now own could spend the night! :)
One day I brought the grandkids crabbing underneath the I-210 bridge. It was shady and cool, but we didn’t catch any crabs (which was fine, I didn’t want to clean them anyway).

Trevor threw the turkey neck out in the water and forgot to hold on to the string!

We have an appointment in Red Bay, Alabama at the Tiffin factory for some warranty work in the middle of July. I don’t know if Sue’s mom will be well enough for Sue to be able to go with me, but I hope so.
I will be spending some time with the grandkids for the next few weeks and I will be posting some more pics.
Until next time!
