Well I only stayed at the motorhome for a couple days before my ankles started to swell, difficulty breathing and my chest cage was moving around. Hummmm. Back to the hospital and they found some fluid buildup in the sac around the heart and lungs. Also they found that the wire they used to secure my breast bone after the surgery had come loose. That may have been partly my fault, because I was pushing my self up in the bed and getting out of bed. I guess they forgot to tell me not to do that, or I forgot they told me not to do that!
They did a little chest surgery to put in a titanium plate in my chest instead of the wires. I stayed in the hospital for another week and then they sent me back to the motorhome.
After about 10 days there I had appointments for some tests where they found some more fluid buildup. Back in the hospital I go to get the fluid removed, that all went well. After a few days in the hospital, I got a hospital bug that they had to give me some serious antibiotics to kill it.
After a week, they sent me home with a PICC line and some IV antibiotics to take twice a day. After about 3 or 4 days at home I got an allergic reaction to the antibiotic and got really nauseated. Since I had the acid reflux surgery (fundoplication) done 5 years ago one of the side effects is that I can’t throw up. So imagine being very nauseated and you can’t throw up. Bad stuff!!
So back to the hospital to get this taken care of. I told Sue that the day of nausea was the worst I had felt since the transplant. But the next day I felt the best I had since the transplant. They kept me in the hospital for a week before they sent me back to motorhome.
So far I have been staying out of the hospital and my last check-up went well. I go back to the Methodist at the end of March for my clinic (check-up). So I am felling great, Sue and I go to the gym/recreation room here at the RV park to get some exercise. Sue does a little on the machines and then she goes to the swimming pool. She has it all to herself in the mornings when we go. I get on the treadmill for 20 minutes then I stop and do my morning crossword puzzle or read the Houston Chronicle. I then get back on the treadmill for another 15 minutes. Sue then finishes up in the pool and takes a shower at the main showers next to the pool. We then head back to the motorhome to plan the rest of the day.
So as of right now things are going well!
Until next time!!
